Director, Enterprise Infrastructure Services and Medical Center ISO at UCSF

Provided vision and operations leadership in overseeing and managing all aspects of the university's IT infrastructure, including the data center (compute and storage), production control, systems administration, email and messaging, database administration, voice and data networks, and host and server infrastructure environments. Also served as Information Security Officer for the UCSF Medical Center. Led a team of 128 IT professionals and managed a $31M budget.
o Management and operations: Consolidated data center management and hired staff to put into place the skills necessary to support current technology. Actions resulted in better 24x365 support of the clinical and business applications, faster problem resolution and improved service delivery.
o Network optimization: Spearheaded the architecture and installation of the Cisco Nexus data center network equipment with FCOE support, Netscaler and Palo Alto firewall in support of the EPIC EMR deployment.
o Wireless network optimization: Directed the architecture and installation of ubiquitous wireless service to all UCSF locations. Ensured SSID consistency across the enterprise and expanded guest service to all locations.
o System innovation: Consolidated 3 distinct Exchange email environments into a single Exchange enterprise solution improving email stability and end user experience and eliminating 2 staff positions.
o Cost reduction and restructuring: Decreased FY 2012 operating budget by $1.6M. Also achieved additional savings by reorganizing and reducing staff.
o Performance optimization: Improved cellular coverage at the University's Parnassus location by working with AT&T to install micro and macro cell sites and a distributed antenna system.
o Cost reduction: Consolidated network infrastructure and remote office connectivity for a savings of $72K a year. Deployed VoIP phones versus Centrex for a savings of $240.00 per phone per year.
IT Director Enterprise Information Systems & ISO at UCSF Medical Center

Led a team of 64 information technology professionals supporting voice and data communications, mainframe, UNIX, Windows and Exchange Server administration, end user computing device support, and technology standards setting. Managed a $12M operating budget.
o Network security: Implemented an Enterprise security program which focused on compliance, risk management, enterprise protection technologies and data loss prevention.
o HIPPA | Hitech compliance: Ensured appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect the privacy of Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) where in place and monitored for compliance.
o Network administration: Directed the implementation of a fully redundant Gigabit metropolitan area network supporting voice, video and data eliminating 41 T-1s and keeping costs neutral.
o Wireless network architecture: Orchestrated the deployment of wireless infrastructure in patient care areas to support clinical devices, workstations on wheels, tablet technology, patient access, and VoIP over wireless (700 ASCOM phones integrated Rauland Borg Nurse call system).
o Voice: Reduced medical center PBXs (Private Branch Exchange) systems from 12 to 5 by using VoIP|TDM Hybrid technology reducing annual maintenance costs and operational support.
o Video conference: Oversaw the installation of 5 in room and several personal video conference systems reducing travel for staff and improving productivity.

Technology and Client Delivery Executive: Oversaw IT operations supporting data communications, Windows NT and Exchange Server administration, and desktop engineering. Supervised a team of 17 IS professional staff including 3 direct reports.
Account Manager: Directed day-to-day account management activities that supported QAD MFG|Pro ERP, Inso PIMS PDM (product data management), data communications, Windows NT and Exchange Server administration, Unix Server administration and desktop systems. Also oversaw North American corporate voice and data communication activities. Led a team of 12 IS professionals.
Infrastructure Operations Manager: Led day-to-day project management activities for a team of IS professionals supporting voice and data communications, Windows NT and Exchange Server administration, Novell Server administration, Unix Server administration and virtual private networks for 2,400 users across 64 global sites.
Technical Delivery Team Manager: Oversaw several technical disciplines based on business needs. Served as Technical Delivery Team Manager for regional Oracle database administrators supporting ERP applications. Also served as Technical Delivery Team Manager for a diversified staff of 31 IS professionals supporting voice and data communications services, Lotus Notes administration, Banyan|Novell Server administration and desktop support functions.
